The recent rebellion by several Trinamool Congress MPs has forced party supremo Mamata Banerjee to undertake an organisational overhaul. As part of it, three rebel MPs—Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Mala Roy, and Sayoni Ghosh—were removed from their organisational roles, while new in-charges were appointed for the youth wing, women’s wing, and North Kolkata organisational district.

Hours after six-time MP from North Kolkata constituency Sudip Bandyopadhyay met Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav at the latter’s residence in New Delhi on Saturday morning, Ms. Banerjee called a meeting and removed him as the president of the party’s North Kolkata organisational district. The party’s national spokesperson and Beleghata MLA, Kunal Ghosh, was appointed in his place.
However, the two-time MP joined the rebel bloc of the 20 MPs led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and attended the group’s first meeting with Mr. Yadav and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in New Delhi on June 8.
Another rebel MP, Sayoni Ghosh of Jadavpur, who had been retained as the president of Trinamool Youth Congress during an earlier reshuffle in the party on June 5, was also removed. Arnab Banerjee has been appointed in her position. Ms. Ghosh was given charge of the wing in 2021, succeeding the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
